David Giacalone at f/k/a has nice treatment of the the ATLA's pre- convention response to potential trial lawyer bashing, and what Abraham Lincoln would say about trial lawyers. In addition, we can find out what Honest Abe charged his clients ($ approx 9500 in todays $ for a murder charge and $95 in today's $ for what were likely to be office matters).
I recently read LINCOLN, by David Herbert Donald. (It is an excellent biography and it put the current Kerry-Bush presidential race into some perspective.) There are some nice descriptions of Lincoln's days on the Illinois judicial circuit. He shared rooms and sometimes the same bed with fellow circuit riders. Not a glamorous life at'all!
