Coyote-Deer Risk Management

Did you know that insurers release coyotes into deer rich environments to reduce the deer population which in turn will reduce the incidence of negative outcome deer-auto interactions?  They don't. (via IJ.)

I guess auto insurance has made it big.  It now has its own urban rural legend.

Not mine -- and I'd hate to be the vet having to "fix" it.

Having loads of spare time (without even being tenured!), I took a few minutes and went to snopes.com (where I often check out internet rumors)and searched . I was hoping to find out that your herd management legend was actually true, but had to settle for passing on the coyote-wolf-dog tale.

There was a great sign outside a PA collision repair shop about two winters ago that said, "Got your deer with the wrong ammo?"
