A tornado tore through eastern Iowa last night causing a lot of destruction: ripping roofs, crushing and flipping cars, and even killing a woman in a mobile home outside of Iowa City.
When the tornado touched down in Iowa City I was at a bar a block from St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, which had half of its roof torn off. Who would have guessed that being in a bar would have been safer than a church?
I saw the funnel as it was trailing away from downtown Iowa City. It was my first time, and hopefully last, seeing a live tornado (I did see the movie Twister). It was surreal. Don't worry Toto (aka Yeti) is ok.
An update from a colleague at the Business School: "Apparently there was some looting last night. I guess when the tornado went into town, some people [presumably students since it occurred at a liquor store] did a bit of "shopping" ... got to love their entrepreneurial spirit."
For more pictures of the destruction check out here, here, or here.

Very intrigued to see one of the authors of RiskProf is a fellow Hawk!
Unfortunate circumstances in IC last night; a handful of my friends also took refuge in PedMall bars. From what I heard, the house I lived in (across from St. Patrick's) is pretty well decimated. I suppose it'll be a different Iowa City when I visit this summer.
The Press-Citizen (online) has some pretty crazy pics too, if you haven't seen them yet.

Why weren't you at church?

Worshipping Bacchus seems to work.
And if students indeed went "shopping" at a liquor store - I guess it makes more of "spiritual" entrepreneurship than the other way round!!
